Women Power & IPR

Women entrepreneurs are helping in shaping the new world. They have broken the stereotype of “women don’t work”. Today, women are working in every field.

The government is also taking measures to encourage women's empowerment. They are urging the women of backward areas to come forward. Many schemes have been there for specific women.

According to the world intellectual property organization (WIPO), India is seventh in the world in terms of having a patent filing office. But still, women are not given the appropriate chance to grow and come out with new and better innovations that could be beneficial for the future.

Recently as published in the economic times, patent applications filed by women entrepreneurs will get faster clearance. This is a major step taken by the Department Of Industrial Policy And Promotion to encourage more and more women entrepreneurs.

According to the rules, if any women applicant or if a group member is female, the procedure of patent application will be cleared fast.  This is done to encourage women entrepreneurship in the country because there are many women entrepreneurs in the country but out of them, very few get patents. They either don't bother or they don't want to be involved in these procedures.

The department is also making efforts to fulfill this. They are hiring more manpower to complete this procedure faster and use of proper and faster technology will be done to clear the patent application faster. If the applicant or one of the applicants is a woman, then the department would provide her with assistance and the application would get an expedited examination.

The government has taken measures in the patent field also for encouraging women's empowerment. More and more women will be encouraged and will be part of the great entrepreneurs of India.

Filing patents is a lengthy process because it includes filing documents, publication in the patent journal, examination, and then grant. It may happen such that any objection may arise due to the non-filing of documents in a proper way or any other reason which may increase the time taken.

The president of the national intellectual property organization, Mr. T C James stated that the fast approval and clearance of applications for women would be a great step towards innovation.
